Cambodia Weather and Climate

toggle

Cambodia has a tropical monsoon climate with warm temperatures year-round, averaging 25–32°C (77–90°F). The dry season (November–April) is the best time to visit Cambodia, offering sunny days and low humidity—ideal for exploring Angkor temples, Phnom Penh, and beach destinations. The rainy season (May–October) brings short tropical showers, lush landscapes, fewer crowds, and better travel deals, especially from June to September.

Cambodia Tailored
Experiences

Victory over Genocide Day is one of Cambodia’s most significant national commemorations. It marks the liberation from the Khmer Rouge regime, which devastated the nation between 1975 and 1979. Ceremonies take place across the country, particularly in Phnom Penh at the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, where survivors and families gather to honor victims through prayer and remembrance.

Chaul Chnam Thmey, or Khmer New Year, is Cambodia’s grandest celebration. Lasting three days, it marks the end of the harvest and the beginning of the new solar year. Families clean and decorate their homes, make offerings at pagodas, and play traditional games such as tug-of-war, bos angkunh, and water splashing.

Bon Om Touk is Cambodia’s grandest national celebration, marking the end of the rainy season and the symbolic reversal of the Tonle Sap River. For three days and nights, thousands gather along Phnom Penh’s riverside to cheer on longboat races across the Tonle Sap and Mekong Rivers. The festival also honors the Water and Moon Goddesses and recalls ancient victories under King Jayavarman VII.

The Angkor Festival is a spectacular cultural event set amid the majestic temples of Angkor Wat. Organized by Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, it features traditional dance, music, and theatrical performances that bring ancient Khmer legends and history to life. As night falls, the illuminated temples create a breathtaking stage for the performers, blending history, spirituality, and art in a truly magical atmosphere.
