Morning
After breakfast, take a Cyclo (a three-wheeled bicycle taxi) to explore Phnom Penh and visit its top attractions.
Check out Pshar Kandal, the oldest market in Phnom Penh, for delicious local fare. Then, take a stroll around the French Quarter to see colonial-era buildings and visit Wat Phnom, the city’s tallest religious building.
After visiting the Royal Palace Compound constructed in 1866, check out the Silver Pagoda, also known as the Emerald Buddha temple. Inside, you’ll find several Buddha statues adorned with diamonds, emeralds, gold, and silver.
Explore the National Museum, a striking red structure with exquisite Khmer architecture, and home to over 5,000 artifacts. Don’t miss the picturesque River Front Park, perfect for photos. After lunch, head back to the hotel to escape the heat.
Afternoon
Explore the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, also known as Prison S21, to learn about Cambodia’s recent grim past and visit exhibits in the four jail buildings. Many people you encounter during your tour have lost family members during this time and want you to know about it to prevent it from happening again.
After spending 1 hour and 15 minutes at the museum, watch a video on the Khmer Rouge rule before traveling 40 minutes to the Killing Fields. More than two million people died as a result of Pol Pot’s dictatorship. You will have around 1 hour and 15 minutes to tour the location, with a map and a 15-language audio tour available.
